Want to open a PDF in PDFpen rather than Preview? Attach a document to a new email message? Tag a file? Skype a contact? You can send anything on LaunchBar's bar to another app, folder, action, or service. Too many results in a list to browse? Try a sub-search, which is an abbreviation search limited to a list of search results. You can browse folders, recent documents for an app, clipboard history, snippets, tags, and more. Sometimes you don't know what you want until you see it. LaunchBar is smart (so the abbreviation doesn't have to be obvious) and learns from what you type (in case it guessed wrong the first time). The primary way you select things in LaunchBar is by typing a few letters associated with the item you want to find. You can either drag the selected item from the LaunchBar window as well as any other item from the search result menu. Items can be dragged from LaunchBar to other applications. This allows to perform entire file operations using the keyboard: Select the source, Copy (Command-C), Select the destination, Paste (Command-V). Copy/Paste of a file path pops up a menu asking for the desired file operation.Send to LaunchBar (Command-Shift-F1): This command is accessible from the Services menu of other applications, allowing you to send one or more files that are currently selected in that application to LaunchBar.Drop Finder Selection (Command-D): Simulates a “drag and drop” of the current Finder selection onto LaunchBar.Get Finder Selection (Command-G): Transfers the current Finder selection to LaunchBar.LaunchBar provides a set of commands allowing you to perform drag and drop operations using the keyboard instead of the mouse: If you drag onto the Action menu icon (at the right end of the LaunchBar window), the menu for choosing the desired action will pop up regardless of the configured default action. This action will be performed when you drag items onto LaunchBar without pressing any modifier keys. Alternatively you can press the following modifier key combinations during the drag: Modifierįor different kinds of dragging destinations (applications, folders, …) a default action can be configured in the Advanced pane of LaunchBar Preferences. Modifier Keysīy default, when you drag an item onto the bar, LaunchBar pops up a menu where you can choose the desired action for the dragged item. Start dragging the file, press Command-Space to activate LaunchBar, enter TED to select TextEdit, and finally drop the file onto the bar. Say you want to open an HTML file with TextEdit. Note that you can enter an abbreviation to select the desired destination even during the drag. You can drag items onto the LaunchBar window, allowing you to open files or URLs with a specific application or to perform various file operations such as moving or copying.
